The Women’s Resource Center and Women’s Support Center

Here’s more from 100 Years, 100 Facts about today’s Armenia. The Women’s Resource Center and the Women’s Support Center are two of many groups that deal with women’s issues in the country.

The Women’s Resource Center is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, with branches in Yerevan and Shushi. The organisation deals with women’s rights, sexual and reproductive rights, domestic violence, and the role of women in peace building.

Domestic violence has been in the news in Armenia and in the Diaspora in recent years, which is one driving force behind the Women’s Support Center, founded in Yerevan in 2010. Walk-in services, including legal assistance and psychological counselling, as well as a hotline, form part of the activities of this organisation.

Both groups put together public events, carry out research and training programmes, and work towards the education and empowerment of women and raising awareness in Armenian society with regards to women’s issues.
